New equipment for repairing the Lomba Tantum cable car has already arrived on Brava Island
Nova Sintra, June 20, 2026 (Bravanews) - Two years after the breakdown that brought the Lomba Tantum Cable Car to a standstill, the island of Brava witnessed the unloading of new equipment at the Port of Furna. The arrival of this equipment represents a crucial step toward the reactivation of an infrastructure that has been eagerly awaited by the local population.
According to a statement from the local government, this project is the result of a partnership between the Brava City Council and the Ministry of the Sea, through the Directorate-General for Fisheries. This joint effort aims to address one of the main demands of the residents of Lomba Tantum and the entire island.
The resumption of the cable car’s operations will have a direct impact on the daily lives of the region’s fishing operators. The infrastructure will facilitate the transport of fish, alleviating the daily physical strain on the professionals who depend on the sea to support their families.
"Dignity returns to the work, and the development of Lomba Tantum gains new momentum!" — Brava Municipal Council
